Description

Husson University's College of Science and Humanities invites applications for one or more Instructor(s) or Assistant Professor(s) of Chemistry to begin Fall 2024. Ideal applicants will have a strong scientific background and a passion for teaching. This position is responsible for all aspects of teaching undergraduate chemistry lecture and lab courses, including developing and implementing lab activities, assessing student performance, and reporting grades for coursework. The teaching load also includes lectures and labs for first-year general chemistry. Expertise in analytical chemistry, medicinal chemistry or related health or natural sciences fields is a plus but not required. The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position will include responsibilities in managing and coordinating assessment tools, Examsoft, and CANVAS for the first-year chemistry courses. All ranked faculty are expected to fulfill institutional expectations of teaching, scholarship, advising and service.

Candidates will be expected to provide ongoing academic advising and serve a diverse student population. Candidates will be required to remain current with new trends and developments in their field of and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning, participate in campus committees, and engage in the academic life of the University.

Examples of Duties

The successful candidate will:

Develop and present materials necessary for assigned lecture and lab instruction.
Develop and enhance current lab activities to meet changing needs of the programs.
Assess student performance and participate in college assessment activities.
Prepare the lab space for weekly lab instruction, including equipment and consumables.
Manage Course Assessments
Organize and manage American Chemical Society standardized exam.
Work professionally, ethically and collaboratively within the College of Science and Humanities and the University.

Note: This is a face-to-face position; candidates are expected to be on campus.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

Must have a minimum M.S., Ph.D. or A.B.D in an appropriate field. Undergraduate teaching experience is a plus. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching and student learning, as well as the ability to collaborate across disciplines to develop outstanding educational opportunities for students.

Must be a team player who is able to work independently with minimal supervision, and function congenially and effectively within a team environment. Must be comfortable operating and maintaining lab instruments and analytical computer software.
