Job Description

Maine Veterans' Homes is a mission-driven, independent nonprofit organization, with six nursing homes throughout Maine. We are dedicated to serving Maine's Veterans and families and take great pride in our mission to "care for those who served".

These are exciting times at our Augusta Home as we settle into our new state-of-the-art facility, providing care to our residents through the small house model.

The small house model is a distinctively different approach to long-term and residential care. It de-institutionalizes the nursing home to self-contained residences, similar to private homes in design, offering each of our residents a private bedroom and bathroom. A common space includes a living area, open kitchen, dining area, and den.

We are seeking a RN to manage and direct our 30-bed Residential Care Village. The Residential Care Director is responsible for ensuring the necessary care and services are provided to each resident and assists him/her in maintaining the highest level of physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being in accordance with the resident care plan and standards of federal, state, and VA regulations.

Job-related responsibilities include:

  • Plans, organizes, evaluates, and ensures delivery of quality care to each resident by initiating and coordinating the comprehensive interdisciplinary care plan, in compliance with state and federal regulations, and MVHA policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the identification, management, and treatment of medical issues as they arise.
  • Oversees, completes, and maintains nursing/medical records according to procedure in order to document resident outcomes and meet state, federal, and VA regulations.
  • Coordinates all required documentation including MDS, monthly resident status reports and progress notes, ensuring that documentation is informative, descriptive, and reflective of the resident's care plan. Ensures that all resident information is current, accurate, and updated as the resident's condition(s) dictate.
  • Works closely with the Administrator on a variety of management issues regarding nursing services, policies, regulatory requirements, general operations, human resources, and strategic planning.
  • Works with social services and other staff regarding admissions and discharge planning.
  • Works with an interdisciplinary team to embrace the core concepts of the small house model to bring a client centered, quality first approach to care and service in Residential Care.

Experience and Skills

  • Candidate must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a BSN in the state of Maine.
  • Must have professional knowledge of the methods and practice of residential care.
  • At least five (5) years of clinical experience; two (2) years in long-term care preferred.
  • Experience or training in such areas as geriatrics, residential care education, and dementia is desirable.
  • The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective leadership and engage in purposeful communication, as well as experiences that exhibit creativity, integrity, and initiative.
